About Abhinam Yoga Center In India

‘Abhinam’ is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘humble, ego-less, open to learn’. Abhinam Yoga School in Patnem, Goa & Dharamkot, Dharamsala was started with the approach that a good teacher is one who is capable of being a good student.

Our team of Yoga Alliance certified teachers consists of individuals who have been working in the field of Yoga and Meditation for many years. They have trained Yoga in various styles, traditions and schools.

Founded for educational purpose solely, Abhinam Yoga Center is a non-profit organisation and directly funds the Krishnamurty School in Bihar that offers educations to hundreds of kids who cannot afford one.

Our View on Yoga

Yoga is a lifelong learning process: It is a complete life-style rather than just an exercise. It demands a very humble, open and innocent mind.

In the west the word “Yoga” has become a synonym for physical exercise and has adopted gym culture. Yoga has turned into a competitive sport: The more flexible the better and something to succeed at all cost.

Abhinam Yoga School does not agree with this currently popular presentation of Yoga. We are committed to bringing back the true essence of Yoga: The art of aligning body, mind and being that is reflected in the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali and other ancient yoga scriptures like the Bhagavat Gita.

Our Aspiration

We aim to make Yoga teachers aware of the 8 limbs of Ashtanga Yoga. These 8 limbs or steps are the core of Patanjali’s teachings and build a framework that helps us to recognise our true self. Our teaching focuses as much on the external Yoga practices (such as correct alignment of Asanas) as on the internal practices (such as one’s ethical standards, meditation and spiritual practices).

In short, we want to present a holistic vision of Yoga which addresses body, mind and our innermost being. Abhinam Yoga is dedicated to bringing Yoga out of its current “succeed at all cost culture” and to teach Yoga injury free. Our aspiration is to train Yoga teachers worldwide who will be supportive of their student’s inner growth.

Abhinam Yoga Center perceives comparison as a form of violence, so the attitude of competition and comparison is strongly discouraged at our school. We provide a non-comparing and non-competitive environment for students. This helps them to relax and go deeper into their practice without any external pressure.

Our Course Director

Namito started studying Yoga at the age of seven under Swami Satyananda, the founder of Bihar School of Yoga and a direct disciple of Swami Shivananda. Later in his life he studied with great masters of Yoga and spirituality such as B.K.S Iyengar, Pattabi Jois and J. Krishnamurti. It was Krishnamurti who inspired him to travel to the Iyengar Institute Pune, India to meet his Guru Mr. Iyengar in order to learn Yoga on a deeper level. With the blessings of Guruji Iyengar he fell in love with the art of Yoga and began to learn Yoga postures with accuracy, alignment and precision along with its therapeutic and medical aspects. He has comprehensive experience of all Ashtanga advanced series for many years. Namito reflects deeply on the therapeutic and medical aspect of Yoga. This protects his students from injury during Yoga practice and trains them in preventive measures. He has been learning and teaching Yoga for more than 25 years.
